Post time to commentsFYI: It's getting colder and we will continue to run outside...so please be prepared to dress warmly!Tips for working out in the cold……
Temperatures & Layering. Allow a few days for your body to acclimate to the cold. As you get more used to the colder temps, your body will retain heat more effectively. Depending on the temperature, you can layer your clothing accordingly.
Here's some more advice on layering for running in the cold. Remember, it's all relative, so it may take a couple of runs in different temps for you to find out what works for you. And make sure you account for wind chill! In general . . .Moderately Cool (40 - 60 degrees)One layer should be adequate. This layer could range from a tank to ashort sleeve technical top to a long sleeve and shorts. At slowerspeeds, or the lower temps, you may want a vest to add to your torso. Gloves are sometimes needed at the lower end temps also.
Moderately Cold (25-39 degrees)Two layers may be helpful in this freezing and near freezing temperaturerange. A technical long sleeve and vest or jacket, tights or 3/4 tightsmay also be in order. Hats and gloves or mitts are a must at the lowend temps.
Chilly Cold (10-24 degrees)This is the three layer range for sure. At the top of the list must behats and gloves with a wind mitt or just heavier mitts. Your uppertorso needs a base layer and a thermal layer with a w wind and water resistant jacket. Thermal tights and, depending on how cold your thighs get, maybe a wind pant will do the trick for warm legs. This is the range where a wind boxer comes in handy. The boxers will keep your butt warmer!!
Slap in the Face Cold (below 10 degrees)Here you'll need layers as above and then some! A face mask or neckgator will be very valuable on these days. Fleece will trap the warmth of your body and provide an excellent mid layer. You will definitely need some wind pants and jacket in this range and the wind boxers.
